What to know about the product

Great for use in urban and rural locations, during boil alerts or in other emergencies when safe drinking water is compromised, the lightweight TAP Water Filter from Sawyer ensures access to clean drinking water. It's an ideal component to add to your emergency preparedness kit for use during natural disasters such as floods, hurricanes, fires, and earthquakes. Simply attach the filter to a standard faucet tap or to a hose bib spigot, turn on the water, and filter into your clean container.

The TAP can be used to filter up to 500 gallons per day to an incredibly clean 0.1-micron standard. The small lightweight TAP features a 0.1-micron absolute filter that removes 99.99999% of bacteria (salmonella, cholera, and E. coli), 99.9999% of protozoa (cryptosporidium and giardia), and 100% of microplastics — exceeding EPA recommendations for removal rates.

The Sawyer TAP Water Filter is a great choice for relief agencies or support groups traveling to areas where the water source is compromised or in question, or when you need ultra-pure particle and bacteria filtration. It's also great for use at campgrounds, festivals, events, in RVs, and for domestic and international travel. Chemicals, electricity, and batteries are not required.

The inline filter fits tap size 17mm to 20mm (11/16" to 3/4"); hose bibs (garden hose spigot); and some (not all) faucet aerators. Included with the Sawyer TAP filter is a backwash adapter, threaded spigot adapter, dual threaded adapter, tap gauge, and a 2-foot-long extension hose for use in a shallow sink.

How to use Picaridin.

An effective alternative to DEET that’s safe for the whole family, Sawyer’s 20% Picaridin insect and tick repellent provides effective protection from disease-spreading ticks (Lyme disease, tick-borne encephalitis) and mosquitoes (West Nile, Dengue, and Zika viruses). More effective at repelling biting flies than DEET, it's also effective at repelling stable flies, black flies, gnats, chiggers, and sand flies. Very comfortable to wear on your skin, it's ideal for all your outdoor adventures, from camping, backpacking, hunting, and fishing to backyard BBQs, sporting events, days at the park, and more.

How to use Permethrin.

The more Permethrin treated fabric surface area you have near you, the more protected you will be from mosquitoes and ticks. This fabric insect repellent can be used to treat clothing, footwear, workwear, bibs, canvas, work stations, seat covers, animal beds, hammocks, chairs, tents, and other fabrics.

Product FAQs

When should I clean my Tap Filter?

We recommend routine maintenance to maximize the filter’s flow rate and longevity.  By regularly backwashing the filter with more pressure than when filtering water, you can restore up to 98.5% of the filter’s flow rate.

How long will the Tap Filter last?

Proper use and maintenance of the filter will allow for this filter to be used for 10+ years.

How much water can be filtered/purified per day?

Each Tap Filter is capable of filtering more than 500 gallons of water per day.

Are there any water pressure restrictions to consider?

Yes. For threaded faucets, we highly recommend using the Threaded Spigot Adapter to make sure the filter pops off of the tap before the fibers are damaged from excessive pressure.  Excessive pressure can absolutely damage the fibers.

Can I attach my Tap Filter directly to a tap?

Sawyer recommends always attaching the Tap filter to the Tap adaptor.

Why is my filter popping off the Tap adaptor?

The Tap filter is designed to pop off of the Tap adaptor when pressure exceeds 20psi. This is to protect the fibers from damage.

The QR code printed on our filters brings users to our website's help page, where they can select one of the ten available languages. When in-person demonstrations and training are impossible, users are able to learn everything they need to know about their filter at the point of use.

The QR codes can also be scanned into GIS survey software for monitoring and evaluation of the filters. This replaces the bar codes that were previously used.
