Filtration Three Ways
3-Way Inline Water Filter
Use the lightweight, versatile Sawyer 3-Way Inline Filter to filter water between your hydration pack and your bite valve, pre-filter water from a faucet using the included adapter, or use as a gravity filtering system while hiking or camping.
It’s a great alternative to carrying potable water long distances or while out canoeing, kayaking, or backpacking. It’s also ideal for emergency preparedness and international travel. Not sure about the quality of water on your trip? Simply attach the 3-Way Inline Filter to almost any faucet worldwide.
Packing filter mechanism (rated to 0.1 micron absolute filtration), the 3-Way Inline Filter removes 99.99999% of all bacteria, such as salmonella, cholera and E.coli, and removes 99.9999% of all protozoa (such as giardia and cryptosporidium).
How It Works
0.1 Micron Absolute Filtration
Our water filters contain a high number of tiny ‘U’ shaped hollow fiber micro-tubes that trap contaminants while allowing decontaminated water to freely pass through at a high flow rate — eliminating the need to store water and reducing the possibility of water contamination after the filtration process.
The Sawyer Point ONE (the filtering mechanism for the 3-Way Inline Filter) is certified for 0.1 micron filtration, meaning there is no pore size larger than 0.1 micron in size. This makes it impossible for harmful bacteria (like salmonella), protozoa, or cysts like E. coli, Giardia, Vibrio cholerae, and Salmonella typhi to pass through the filter.
All Sawyer water filters meet or exceed Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommended removal rates.
Use the lightweight 3-Way Inline Filter water treatment system to filter water directly from a river, lake or stream along the trail, or from other non-potable sources. It also works great as a hydration pack reservoir filter for long hikes where the water source is in question. You can even just attach it to a household faucet filter with the included adapter.
For hydration packs, insert the filter inline with the drinking tube, then simply fill your reservoir with unfiltered water and drink away. As long as the filter is inline with your hydration pack’s tubing you don’t need to worry about cleaning the reservoir. You can also attach a drink tube or straw of your choice (sold separately) to the filter, then submerge the filter into dirty water and drink directly from the source.
A Lifetime of Clean Water
The Point ONE’s filtering membranes are sturdy enough to withstand backwashing, restoring up to 98.5% of the filter’s flow rate. This allows the Point ONE to be cleaned and reused almost indefinitely with no expensive cartridges to replace… ever. We recommend backwashing and sanitizing the filter after every outing for optimized use.

We recommend backwashing your filter when you flow rate begins to diminish, before prolonged storage, and when you are ready to start using your filter again. Backwashing your filter after storage is a great way to re-wet the filters and restore the flow rate before use.
The Sawyer filter removes taste that comes from bacteria, dirt, and green matter.
The Sawyer filter does NOT remove iron, sulfur, other chemicals, or simple compounds. Taste can be masked by using flavor additives like Gatorade or crystal light (filter needs to be cleaned immediately after using them).
The Sawyer filters are not made with charcoal. While other portable filters have charcoal, they lack in amount of media and adequate dwell time. Therefore, they only remove small amounts of heavy metals, pesticides, etc. (when used in real life applications). Try using better sources of water, if possible.
We have independent lab tests using EPA protocols and information about our filters and their warranties available on our Downloads Page.
The Sawyer Squeeze Filter
The Sawyer Squeeze Filter can be used in conjunction with a hydration pack. Please see video Sawyer Squeeze with Hydration Pack using Inline Adapter and Sawyer Squeeze with Fast Fill Adapters.
The Sawyer Squeeze Filter with Water Bottles
The Sawyer Squeeze Filter can also be used on water bottles when you are unsure whether or not it is safe to drink the water.
The Sawyer Inline Filter
This convenient filter can be used as an inline filter on a hydration pack, a pre-filter for an existing pump system, with the provided faucet adapter, or with a gravity bag.
Flow rates vary depending on how clean the filter is and how well you cleaned the filter. Altitude also affects the flow rates (the higher you go the slower the flow. Also, the PointZEROTWO™ filter flows much slower that the Point ONE.
Before initial wetting
Filter is safe from freezing temperatures if it has never been wetted.
After initial wetting
While there is no definitive way to tell if a filter has been damaged due to freezing, Sawyer recommends replacing your filter if you suspect that it has been frozen.
If you are in freezing temperatures, we recommend that you store your filter in your pocket or close to your person so that your body heat can prevent freezing. THERE IS NO WARRANTY FOR A FROZEN FILTER.
